Registered Massage Therapy
Rehabilitate and Relax with Massage from Registered Massage Therapy
What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a professional, non-sexual, regulated health care option that has been proven to prevent, maintain, regulate and augment the physical function of the body, as well as relieve pain. Registered massage therapists focus on manipulating the soft tissues and joints of the body, and you will experience relief from discomforts caused by stress, muscular overuse, and chronic pain syndromes. RMT’s work with people of any age and any profession to help them get back to doing what they love. They care for their clients well being and can not only help to relax you but also help after you have suffered an injury.
About Registered Massage Therapists
So what does a registered massage therapist do and how can they help me? Here are a few key facts about RMTs:
- Massage therapy is a regulated health profession.
- Massage therapists complete a 2-3 year diploma program from a recognized massage therapy school.
- Massage therapists in Ontario must be registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario in order to use the title “massage therapist” or “registered massage therapist.”
- To ensure that massage therapists uphold the highest standards of professionalism and patient care in their practices, they participate in a Quality Assurance Program.
- Each therapist may have different techniques, based on past experience or the program they took, and they utilize these to give you the best-individulized care possible.
New to Massage? Here’s What to Expect at Your First Appointment?
We want you to feel comfortable and confident when you come to our clinic for massage therapy.
At Sinclair Sports Medical Center, you will always be treated with compassion, respect, and care. Prior to your first visit, we will send you an intake form via email. This intake form will go over your health history, past massage experiences and much more. The RMT will be able to see this form prior to your arrival and helps to give them a sense of what they can do to help you the best.

Assessment & Getting Started with the Massage
When you arrive, you will be greeted by the front desk and they will let the massage therapist know you are here. The RMT will come up to greet you and escort you to a private massage room. There, you and your massage therapist will discuss any physical issues you are currently experiencing and what type of massage you are looking for. If you have a medical condition that your therapist feels would be better handled by your doctor, your therapist will let you know. If you have any injuries, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment until you are healed. This is for your protection—we do not want the massage to aggravate your injury.
Then the massage therapist will leave the room so that you have a moment to disrobe and get comfortable on the massage table. We will begin the massage with you lying face down on the table, under the supplied draping, which is used to ensure your modesty is respected. If you prefer to have your massage without disrobing, let your therapist know when you first arrive in the massage room.
As you wait for the massage therapist to return, take this time to relax and breathe deeply. Your therapist will lightly knock on the door before re-entering the room to ensure you are ready.

What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Your massage therapist welcomes your feedback during the massage. If you require a lighter or deeper touch than what the therapist is using, please feel welcome to say so! We want the entire session to be about you and your well-being.
Whether or not you talk during your massage is up to you; many people opt to remain silent and some even fall asleep, and that’s perfectly fine!

After Your Massage
When your massage is completed, your massage therapist will let you know if he or she feels a next visit is warranted and, if so, when. If you enjoyed the massage and want to make another appointment, we advise you to do that now, as many RMTs are booked days to weeks in advance.
